How can I even put it into words?

Jeri - P'cola, FL

I still can't believe that anyone could do anything so horrible. My condolences to all involved.

Gina - Johannesburg, South Africa

Our society, our freedom, so taken for granted is forever changed. Innocence crumbled in the dust today. The horror of it all fills my heart with grief.

Sheila - Tennessee

Mere words alone cannot properly express the compassion we Canadians feel towards you all right now during this unspeakable trauma. God bless you all

Kathy - Winnipeg, Canada

You're not called the "home of the brave" for nothing!

Kathy - Winnipeg, Canada

I thank God every day that I live in the greatest country in the world. God bless America, and God bless her citizens who love her.

Mike Gray - Amery, Wisconsin

I know that each and every one of us has been shaken by the tragic events of today. I also know that many of us will find that we have lost friends and loved ones because of today's horrific acts. I just got off the phone with my cousin; she was actually on the phone to her best friend at his office in the WTC when the plane hit. She heard the explosion, then nothing. I'm drawn to this site to express my grief and disbelief because thefunnypages.com represents (to me) so much that it is right with the world: The laughter, the humor, the friendships, and, most importantly, the understanding and warmth that evolves from dialogue between people who take the time to express themselves. May God keep us all strong through the events of today, and the consequences of those events in the future. I would like to respectfully suggest that we suspend the contest for the rest of the week. I know I don't feel especially funny.

Bob Lacey - Half Moon Bay, CA

I think were at war right now.My heart goes out to all those who died.My god rest there souls(im religious okay).

Robbie - mammoth spring, Unknown

I know the world as we Americans know it has changed forever. As a retired American Airlines flight attendant, I pray for all those who were personally touched by today's inconceivable horror. Enough rhetoric, take them and their cause down..........

Amy Sherman - Glen Ellyn, IL

Dear Friends: As a member of this great human race, as one who was born and raised in New York City, as a person who values friends and family, I am saddened beyond belief by the events of the day. My thoughts and prayers go out to those who have lost loved ones, those who lie physically hurt from this evil deed, and to the rest of us who must endure the pain of a cowardly and nonsensical act. May today make us a stronger and more intelligent nation. And may we continue to learn that the everyday things in life -- like giving, sharing, supporting, loving, and laughing -- do count in a very special way.

Bruce R. - Woodstock, Georgia

My condolences to all friends and families affected by this tragedic barbaric act. Justice will be served!!

Jim D - Indy , IN

Im so sorry, terribly sorry.i might not be affected so much, but i can feel the horror and sadness, and although this is so insignificant to what the others are feeling,it already feels so terrible.I sincerely hope that this will end soon and may those innocent victims rest in peace..

Jennt - Singapore, Unknown

That is the really sad thing -- Jennt said they were not affected because they are in Sinapore. But really if they can do this to the United States they can do this to anyone. The entire world is affected. My prayers go out to all of the immediate victims as well as the human race.

Mary Snyder - D.C.

...and let those who have died before not have been killed in vain. The walls have been breached but the spirit - NEVER.

Mac - Wanaque, NJ

My very soul is bruised. In rapid succession, almost like the flash of a strobe light, my thoughts go from overwhelming sorry to black rage. We must never forget the dark day that was September 11, 2001-- but we must never let our hatred lower us to the level of the craven cruelty of our attackers. Pray for the victims and that those who survive them will somehow one day find solace and closure.

Shel McDonald - Memphis, TN

On this day of tragedy we must address the security of the United States. It has been over 10 years since the last hijacking of a U.S. aircraft, yet apparently, terrorists were able to hijack four in one day! Luckily, none of these were hijacked overseas where security is much more lax and perhaps nuclear weapons or chemical/biological weapons could have been smuggled on board. Tell me how, even if the Reagan/Bush/Bush Star Wars anti-missile system was operational we could have prevented the disaster of 9/11. This system is a total waste of money that even if it worked would not prevent a similar incident. Take the money earmarked for this system and instead direct it towards anti-terorist activities including bounties- Wanted Dead or Alive. The terrorists are where the real danger lies.

Larry Fishbach - Twinsburg, OH

In the name of God the most merciful the most compassionate My heart is saddend by the lost of innocent lives. May God guide us and keep strong in our time of need May God keep us in the light and out of darkness Ameen

Nesey - Unknown

"You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, 'I have lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.' You must do the thing you think you cannot do." - Eleanor Roosevelt

Jim D - Indy, IN USA

There are no words, there are many words. Souls cries heard around the world.

Bee Spit - Janet Boyd - UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

GOD BLESS THEM ALL WHO ARE OR WILL BE HURT BY THIS DEVISTATING ACT OF TOTAL COWARDNESS. ITS A SHAME WHEN WE HELP THOSE WHO NEED HELP AND COULDNT HELP THEMSELVES AND THEY TURN AROUND AND PUT US IN A PLACE OF DEVASTATION AND DISTRUCTION. THE PAST HAS RREVEALED ITSELF AND SHOWED US WHAT HAPPENS WHEN OUR GOVERNMENT THINKS THAT THE ONLY WAY TO BE IS NICE AND BACK DOWN TO EVERY PROBLEM AND FOREIGN PERSON. THIS WOULD OF NOT HAD HAPPENED IF WE WOULD OF STOOD UP FOR OURSELVES ALONG TIME AGO. THE BORDERS WEATHER THEY BE WATER OR LAND SHOULD OF BEEN SHUT DOWN CENTURYS AGO AND ALL THOSE FOREIGNERS WOULD OF NEVER HAD MADE IT TO OUR COUNTRY TO START WITH. WE CAN SURVIVE OUR SELVES ON WHAT WE MAKE AND SHIP IN OUR COUNTRY WE DONT NEED THEM AND NEVER DID BUT SOMEONE THOUGHT WE DID AND LOOK WHAT HAPPENED. THEY ARE TRYING TO TAKE US OVER HEK THEY HAVE PROBABLY BEEN HERE FOR YEARS AND LIVED HERE MAYBE THEY OWNED THEIR OWN STORES AND SOME OF US MIGHT HAD SHOPPED AT IT. OR THEY COULD OF BE ONE OF THE PEOPLE WHO CHECKED OUR LUGGAGE OR PUT OUR FOOD AND BAGS ON THE PLANE. THEY COULD OF EVEN BEEN THE STINKING PILOT. IAM VERY VERY SORRY BUT I AM JUST BESIDE MYSELF AND SICK AND TIRED OF US BEING THE CHICKENS THAT WE ARE. LIKE I SAID GOD BLESS ALL THAT ARE INVOLVED AND THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE JUST AS DEVISTATED AS I AM. ITS JUST NOT RIGHT. IT IS TIME THAT WE BECAME THE PRIORITY AGAIN NOT THE MINORITY(HOPEFULLY I SAID THAT RIGHT)GOD BLESS ALL

TAMMIE - NEW PLYMOUTH, IDAHO

The most horrible thing any of us have ever seen and hopefully will ever see - I cannot comprehend it....It is time to get this Bin Laden at all costs to bring some small amount of closure to our country

Sredni in mo (real name John) - Unknown

I want to know why the question is not being asked: How did they get into the cockpit? Aren't the doors locked from the inside? They should be! Of course this after the fact, but there should be a policy whereby the cockpit is locked from inside and cannot be opened until aircraft has landed.....No stewardesses allowed in cockpit during flight, etc. They can put a prison type "sliding chamber" in door to transfer food and drink. The bathroom issue needs to be addressed of course - but I think this type of policy needs to be implemented.

Sredni in mo (real name John) - Unknown

I feel we are living in the last days and times.God give us strenght and love to stand together as one.

annette d. nicholson - dahlonega, GA

America was founded upon Christian principles. But, over the last two hundred years we have been sliding down that slippery slope that is ruled by the all-mighty dollar. There have even been some who suggest to remove "In God We Trust" from our coins. They claim that it doesn't belong there. How deep into the pits of Hell does a nation need to fall before it realizes that the only way it can be strong and rightious is by relying on God? I love this country, but I am sadened by the ungodly path it is taking. Our laws protect whales, but not unborn children. It's okay to teach homosexuality in schools, but don't you dare pray in the classroom! An armed robber will get 20 years (or less) in prison, but a person growing marijuana will get LIFE! Our whole system has been turned upside-down! Maybe this recent tragedy will be our wakeup call. I challange everyone to "hate the sin" but "love the sinners". It's a biblical principle that most people find hard to swallow. I, of course, hate the violence those terrorists had done, and I find it difficult not to hate the terrorists, but that's exactly what we must do! They must be found and punished by our government, but we must not put ourselves in spiritual bondage by hating them. It's likely they will spend eternity in Hell for their actions, but that's up to God to determine for sure.

Mike Gray - Amery, America

Our thoughts, prayers and assistance are with all those invovled. May mercy be extended to all that suffered loss and justice be dealt to those who aided the attack.

Michelle McPeters - Inman, SC

How do you explain to children, the hatred involved in yesterday's tradegy...but expect them not to HATE?

Anonymous - Unknown

I have found by surfing that they have known for a long time that the cockpit doors are too flimsy and need to be beefed up...there have been previous problems with passengers breaking through doors to try to take control of planes...hopefully this beefing up of the doors will now occur - albeit too late...Sorry if I am focusing on this too much - I am having a difficult time dealing with this whole thing....

Sredni in mo - Unknown

Sredni in mo, Apparently they were threatening/killing the flight attendants to lure the pilots out. These barbarians had training on the planes they turned into missles against us. They may have found ways around the security on the door. We won't know until they find the "black boxes" what happened.

Jim D - Indy, IN Thoughts and prayers to everyone who has lost a friend/love one.

"I fear that all we have done is awaken a sleeping giant, and fill it with a desire for vengeance." Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto -(Mastermind of the Pearl Harbor attack) Yamamoto's statement is still appicable. God Bless America

Mark Fagan (trooper1971) - Gallatin, Tennessee

Why people can be so incredibly and needlessly cruel is beyond me. My thoughts and sorrow go out to the families involved. Lest we forget.

Neal Pallotta - Eaglehawk, Victoria

fighting fire with fire is wrong. If we go and kill a bunch of people, they will just come back and kill more of us. There must be some way to end this without using the same ideaology that created it. I am angry too, but we have to remember that we do hold life in sanctity

w.bredbeck - new york city, ny

All of us around the world need to come together and root out all terrorism. Let these images, etched forever in our minds, serve to motivate us to a better way. And let us be aware, it is so important to live a life of love, compassion. We need to deal with this and those who brought this horror on us. But we must live in the love God intends for all of us. Bless all of you and all of those touched by perhaps the saddest day in our history. We can get through this--have faith. Please, hug your kids and grandbabies--they need you more than ever.

Danny Peterson - Marquette, MI

If it were just a plot from a movie, rather than reality, I wouldn't bother to see it - just too implausible. So sorry and devastated to hear about it. Most of us Aussies are in shock and hoping for the best outcome from this horrible disaster.

Tassia - Sydney, Australia

Phil, I think you exercised good judgment in shutting down the caption contest for the rest of the week. As much as I love cartoons (being a cartoonist myself), I'm not feeling really funny right now, either. By all means let's take this time to remember how really blessed we are in spite of this monstrous and devilish act of terrorism, and those that perished because of it (which no doubt will number well in the thousands). I think pro sports should suspend their events for the remainder of the week as well. And people like Robin Hoast and Mike Catch should be thinking more of their other fellow Americans instead of their own self-centered interests. God Help Us All!

JEFF A. WALL - Kernersville, N.C., the good ol' US of A

Please help me pray for all the children that have lost a mom or dad.May God be with them.

Cindy - maryville, tennessee

As we were talking about the tragedy, violence and death that occured, my 10 year old made a very good comment that really has me thinking. "God has a purplse in everything."

R.L. - Anytown, USA

no love no life

baskar - madurai, india

my heart goes out to the family of those lost. Any death is unbearable but senseless ones are harder to take.

jan - albany, western australia

my thoughts and prayers go out to the children who have lost so much in their young lives. we live in a violent world and i am saddened by such little regard for life. may we each hold strong to our faith and beliefs.

lew - Unknown

love is everything that i want

nguuyen duc trung - hanoi, vietnam

Phil, I fully support your decision to suspend the cartoons - I know I can't try to think of something funny at this time

Sredni in mo - Unknown

Humor comes from within...my 'within' isn't laughing, it's crying.

Jeri - Unknown

I offer my prayers to the victims and the families. God is still with you all-God is still with America-"Rejoice, O nations, with His people; For He will avenge the blood of His servants, and will render vengeance on His land and His people." Deut. 32:43 Rejoice in the Lord always-again I say Rejoice! I know even with this tragedy you wonder how can someone rejoice--but have faith in your God-He is the master and He has it in His hands---God Bless America

Macey - Laketown, Ut

Hey everybody; Nothing funny about this week. I'm really sorry for anyone who knew anybody that was affected by the events this week. It did give me time to reflect on what's important, and it's not jokes. It's the people around you that give a damn about you. Maybe we should think about that all the time, and not just when disaster strikes.

Lee - Unknown

There has been nothing to laugh about for the past few days but maybe to smile about that a few fire fighters came out alive today. I live miles away in Brooklyn and on Tuesday, the smoke and the smell and the ash was all over us. One of the most impressive things that I saw, being miles away was pieces of burnt papers that came fom those offices of innocent people who died such terrible deaths. "Pray for all of the victims and their families" Thank all the firefighters, police, ems, hospital workers and all who provided help. I hope one day we can be happy again.

Joan Terracciano - Brooklyn, New York

Thank God that I did not lose any family in this horrible act of violence, but I have many friends and co-workers who have been affected by this act ot terrorism. I know of many fire fighters, police and energency seervice people who have lost their lives helping others. Pray for all ! GOD BLESS THEM

Joan Terracciano - Brooklyn, New York

I realized as I looked outside, when I step out my door it is into a different world. This is not the world as I remember it, but is a different place. Not the world I created, but some far off version of the way things are. And now my old world can never be regained.

Josiah Jenkins - Rugby, ND

The thoughts of all my family and friends are with you all at this sad time. God Bless you all.

Peter White - Barnsley, England

To Osama Bin Laden - you will feel the justice of American Wrath - for we will avenge our dead.

PW - Orlando, Florida

Maybe now is the time to put away your Confederate flag forever and fly the American Flag

Anonymous - Unknown

It is a terrible time for our country right now. May God be with the victims families, and the victims theirselves. I will continue to keep everyone in my prayers!

Candance - Giddings, Texas

You can always count on your neighbours to the north for any support you need

William - Edmonton, Alberta, Canada

My heart goes out to those who have lost or suffered. This is a tragic event that has occured, i believe one day the people and the country will once again be strong and in control, with out having to go to war and destroy the world. There are already too many innocent lives lost. Lets make the world a better place, love not hate, happy not sad and no more pain and suffering.

Samantha - Albany, Western Australia

You have likely noticed something... Immediately, world has turned against an evil doer... And people from all over the world, from various backgrounds, have given support, totally and whole heartedly. And now, the rat traps are being set.

derGoat - The Woodlands, TX

We will never forget, and we will not fail!

Geoffrey Erb - Phoenix, AZ

Up until just recently I thought that Sadam Husein was the most evil man on the face of the earth. I was wrong....

Even the tiger in the jungle gets bitten by mosquitos. And: ever bothered to do a body count in Chile, Irak, Laos, Nicaragua, Panama, Vietnam,...? Pain is not measured in CNN apportioned news units - pain is real. Pain is real for everyone whether we learn about it, or not. We all have the chance to learn from the pain. If we blow it again, remember the story of the tiger and the mosquitoes.

Bo - Kendenup, Australia

Why war? why not just persecute those who did it, not bomb the country that the terrorists MAY have been from!!!!! STOP WAR!!! WE WANT PEACE!! If Bush starts to bomb and kill citizens in other countries or start a war, it will be no better than 'cowardly' running planes into his own countrie's buildings!!!!!! peace.
